The New Genetics of Mental Illness

Expanding on a theme of a conference organized by the Mental Health Foundation, this volume is a synthesis of the recent and rapid developments in molecular biology and genetics which impinge upon clinical practice in mental illness. The implications of new discoveries in these fields for a whole range of intractable conditions are immense. Schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, manic-depressive illness, Huntington's chorea, autism and certain anxiety states may all prove to be preventable and treatable as a result of multi-disciplinary co-operation in basic and clinical science. The contributions to the book come from North America, Europe and the UK and represent some of the key work currently being undertaken.
