"Traditionally, "the sacred" has been defined from Western perspectives as related to divinity or dedicated to religious purposes and also, the opposite of the profane, according to Eliade. Frequently it is assumed that the sacred is experienced basically in spatial and ritual aspects, but not in its social and economic dimensions. In the set of studies gathered in this volume, the sacred is analyzed through alternative ontological categories to dual concepts, or through the identification of new ontological relationships to understand the religious phenomenon in the Prehispanic and post-Hispanic world along the Northern and Central Andes."
